Heavy rains expected on polling day in Kenya

Kenyans should expect a rainy elections day October 26th as the short rains season of October through to December picks up, according to the weatherman.
In the seven days forecast released by the Kenya Meteorological Service, the afternoons in most parts of the country will receive relatively heavy rainfall.

The weatherman says the rainfall currently being experienced along the coastal strip is expected to spread to areas that have been dry resulting in enhanced rainfall.

The short rains forecast which indicated that the rainfall will intensify beginning the third to the fourth week of October will see the Central Highlands including, Nairobi area and the counties of Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi experience morning rains over few places on Thursday and Friday. The afternoons on Thursday and Friday will receive showers and enhanced intensities.

The Lake Victoria Basin, Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Central and South Rift Valley in the counties of Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Transnzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Laikipia, Nakuru, Narok, Kajiado, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma and Busia are expected to experience morning rains over few places on Thursday and Friday with showers and thunderstorms being experienced in the afternoons on the election day and Friday.

The Northwestern counties of Turkana, West Pokot and Samburu are expected to experience afternoon showers and thunderstorms over few places throughout the forecast period with sunny intervals in the morning for much of the forecast period, morning rains over few places are however expected on Friday.

The Coastal Strip in the counties of Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale are expected to experience morning showers over several places from Tuesday to Thursday and over few places for the rest of the period. Afternoon showers are expected over several places from Tuesday to Thursday as well and over few places from Friday to Sunday.

The short rains season which is the main rain season for the Southeastern counties of Kitui, Makueni, Machakos and Taita Taveta, Thursday, Friday and Sunday, will experience morning rains over few places and afternoon showers over several places; Tuesday 24th and Monday 30th are expected to experience sunny intervals the entire day, Wednesday and Saturday are expected to experience sunny intervals in the morning and showers over few places in the afternoon.

The Northeastern counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo will on Wednesday through to Friday and Monday 30th receive morning rains over few places and afternoon showers over several places.
